Cripple Creek - Mountain Dulcimer

This is me playing Cripple Creek on my Mountain Dulcimer, also testing out my new noter that I carved out of a stick in the yard... Works great! (sadly no cat in this one, but there are cows on the other side of the camera)
Turkey in the Straw - Mountain Dulcimer
Переглядів 10 тис.12 років тому
This is my first mountain dulcimer video. This is me playing turkey in the straw on my 1993 McSpadden dulcimer. I am playing traditional noter - drone style using a turkey quill as a pick. The noter is the big end of another turkey feather.
You ARE good!
I bet his great great granny taught him how to play.
Nice to see someone using a noter stick. Keep it up.
nice job
Right on! Awesome playing 👍🏻
❤ Yippee and😊 hallelujah 💜
And hallelujah 😊❤
Nice. You must be about in your 20's now? Video is pretty old.
Das ist sehr schön, aber mit dieser Kopfhaltung wird er bald mächtige Probleme haben....🙂👍
Great job!
He's using a quill (feather) for a plectrum, and also a "noter" on the fretboard instead of his fingers. It's how many traditional people would have played. Very nice! 🎶🎵🎶
Love it!
Very well done young man!!
Thank you and well done!!
Dadgum shame there's not a way to give more than one thumbs up. This deserves more than one
Using your comment as the second thumbs up ;)
Gave one for ya, wasn't planning on it till I saw the comment
Love this!!!
wow, very surprising and impressive the 2nd part dude😮. Is it necessery to fix the strings obove as you did for this song?
Very Good!
Sounds good.
Excellent!
It's difficult to hear the melody over the drone strings.
Smoking hot.
nice job nice cat
Wow !! That is so cool I have read about playing with a quill but never seen it .. Looks very difficult but boy it sounds good Thank you !
Génial ! Belle énergie ! ❤️💕
Thank you!
With your performance you make my dulcimer journey start few years ago...why don't you post new material? Ciao from Italy!
Cat says "Lovin' it. Thank you for makin' me sleep
Wow..just wow!!💕💕💕
Using a turkey quill as a plectrum sounds better than using a guitar pick.
What tuning is it in?
beautiful
Love it
Great interpretation!
who are the D-bags that down voted? I wanna know. This was great and they suck.
What a wholesome fucking video
Very good playing young man...
Outstanding!
Outstanding!
This is a great video! I love everything about it. From the cat, to the playing, to the lovely case you have for your instrument. Have you ever tried to write some of your own tunes in it?
Excellent!
Do you have the sheet music/tab for this? I'd love to learn it, it sounds great!
It’s a dulcimer you can’t hit a wrong note it isn’t like how you think whatsoever
Sounds great
here before 1 Mil
Maybe UA-cam will recommend this 10 years from now
What are you picking with? Sounds awesome!
A quill. It's literally a wild Turkey feather with the down stripped off. He also using a short wooden dowel as a slide called a 'noter' which is why this is called called 'Noter & Quill' style.
Are you going to Scarborough Fair Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme Remember me to one who lives there She once was a true love of mine Tell her to make me a cambric shirt (deep forest green) Parsley sage rosemary and thyme Without no seams nor needle work (blankets and bedclothes the child of the mountain) Then she'll be a true love of mine (sleeps unaware of the clarion call) Tell her to find me an acre of land (a sprinkling of leaves) Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme (washes the grave with silvery tears) Between the salt water and the sea strand (A soldier cleans and polishes a gun) She'll be a true love of mine Tell her to reap it with a sickle of leather (War bellows blazing in scarlet battalions) Parsley sage rosemary and thyme (General order their soldiers to kill) And gather it all in a bunch of heather (And to fight for a cause they've long ago forgotten) Then she'll be a true love of mine Are you going to Scarborough Fair Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme Remember me to one who lives there She once was a true love of mine
lovely!
Wonderful playing well done. Loved it
Keep up the traditional playing, people forget the sound of playing as they were meant to be played.
The only reason people started playing in "traditional" ways in the first place is because they weren't playing things "as they were meant to be played" 🙄
Imagine gatekeeping a niche instrument like this 😀 play it every which way to keep it alive
classis mistake.. there's never a right way, especially not in the mountains
Wow!
